About Us

Who is behind Fair Boundaries?

Fair Boundaries is a non-partisan coalition of citizens who believe that voters should pick their leaders, not the other way around. Utah’s representatives should accountable to the populations they serve.

Our office is at 211 East 300 South in Salt Lake City, but keep checking the website for staging locations around the state!

What will Fair Boundaries do?

  • Stop Gerrymandering
  • Establish an independent redistricting commission
  • Keep more communities intact
  • Create an open and transparent redistricting process
  • Respect existing city and county boundaries
We intend to enact these reforms by circulating a petition this summer to put a citizen's initiative on the ballot in 2010. The initiative will set up an independent commission to make recommendations for a fair redistricting process by creating and using a uniform scoring matrix to ensure neutrality and transparency.

Who will benefit: Republicans or Democrats?

This is not about political parties, it's about fair representation, empowering voters, strengthening democracy, an honorable process and civic duty. Additionally, the Republican party is dominant in Utah and will most likely continue to control both houses of the legislature for the foreseeable future.

Why is this important now?

Redistricting occurs every 10 years after the new census. We risk being mired in the same broken system if we do not act now because the next opportunity to reform redistricting will be a decade away.

What can I do to help?
